Thursdays 6pm – 7.30pm

www.aberdeenyouthchoir.com

From their world premiere with the RSNO and their ground-breaking Hip-hop concert A.Y.C. is now on the road looking for the best talent the Granite City has to offer. Group leaders Jayne and Rhianne are visiting local schools to recruit new members for the A.Y.C. Michael Jackson concert at the end of March.

Jayne Carmichael Norrie, Senior Group Leader of the Aberdeen Youth Choir: ‘Our choir continues to go from strength to strength. We are developing AYC into a fully fledged show choir and our next concert will be dedicated to the works of Michael Jackson. We need great singers who can dance and great dancers who can sing. We are so excited to meet the talent of Aberdeen!’ Aberdeen Youth Choir provides free singing tuition to children aged between 6 – 18yrs and provides a platform where children from families with limited incomes can access specialist tuition which they otherwise could not afford.

Funding successes The choir is building from considerable funding successes this year; new funding of over £2000 from Creative Scotland, £750 from the Music Sales Trust and securing long term in-kind sponsorship from The Tunnels live music venue.

Early Years Dalcroze Training

A FREE evening workshop for musicians exploring the Dalcroze approach to music focusing on the Early Years. “Muscles were made for movement, and rhythm is movement. It is impossible to conceive a rhythm without thinking of a body in motion.”-Emile Jaques-Dalcroze 1865 – 1950.

While teaching at the Geneva Conservatoire in the 1890s Dalcroze realised that experiencing the elements of music through movement led to a fuller and more secure understanding. He devised a method which he called Gymnastique Rythmique which employed the body as the primary musical instrument. Alongside his approach to aural training and improvisation, this developed into the Méthode Jaques-Dalcroze.
